Tell us about the founder’s background and what led you to become a producer on the Central Coast

Oak Haven Brewery was born out of a love for good beer and great community. It started with two mates, Chris and myself, who had a passion for small-batch brewing and a dream to bring that into the heart of Gosford. We didn’t want to just open a brewery, we wanted to create something truly local. That’s how Oak Haven found its home inside Gosford RSL, where every drop is brewed onsite and poured fresh. What began as a garage hobby has grown into one of the most awarded breweries on the Central Coast.

What do you enjoy most about connecting with visitors to your business?

The best part is seeing someone walk in and say, “There’s a brewery here?” It always leads to a chat, and that’s where the fun starts. People come in curious and leave feeling part of what we do. A fresh beer and a good conversation is hard to beat.

What makes your products unique?

Our beers all have their own story. Some are tied to the Club’s past, some to people who shaped the area, and a few come from ideas we have around the brew deck. We keep things small batch, fresh and honest, using traditional methods and good ingredients. With more than 30 medals under our belt, we like to think the effort shows in the glass.

What should people expect when they visit your venue?

Fresh beer and friendly faces. Oak Haven pours at both The Gardens and The Grandstand Bar, and it’s the sort of place where you settle in quickly. Some people come for a tasting paddle, others for live music or a quiet beer with mates. Whatever brings you through the door, there is always something worth trying.

Are you able to give us a preview of any innovative projects (e.g., new products, experiences, promotions or collaborations) that you are working on?

There is always something bubbling away. We have a few small batch ideas we are keen to release and some collaborations lined up with local producers. Hop lovers and dark beer fans will be happy with what is coming. We are also working on bringing in behind the scenes tours and tastings so people can get closer to the brewing side of things.

What do you think makes the Central Coast such a great place for people to establish a food or beverage business?

People here care about local. They want to know who made something and how it was put together. There is a real sense of support among producers, too. Everyone is happy to help each other out, and locals genuinely get behind anything made in their own backyard.

Who would you recommend as other ‘must try’ food / drink producers on the Central Coast?

We are lucky to have some great makers around us. Distillery Botanica does beautiful work, and Block ‘n Tackl and Six String are putting out solid beers. The Cheesemaking Workshop & Deli is another favourite. It is a strong little community and we are glad to be part of it.

What do you think is the best kept secret on the Central Coast?

People are surprised to find an award winning brewery inside an RSL, but the real secret is the sense of community. You come for the coastline, but you stay for the connections. The stories run deep here, and we try to pour a bit of that into every brew.

When you’re not making awesome food / drink, what do you love doing in your spare time?

Most of my time is spent with family. Could be a quiet afternoon in the backyard, checking out local spots for a bite, or supporting other makers on the Coast. Simple things, good company, that is what I enjoy.
